Nebojsa Kovacevic, CEO of kiban, talks about how he came up with the idea to completely transform his business model more than a decade after starting his story.
In November 2021, Alex (my friend, partner and CTO of kiban) and I asked ourselves: what if today was the first day of kiban? Instead of leaving it alone, like other endless talks we usually have for years, this time we took it seriously. After hours, what seemed like a very innocent question triggered a revolution in the company: we decided to rebuild everything.
I share with you the main points that define kiban cloud.
The first: we need a platform that brings together all our tools. Sounds logical, doesn't it? However, those of us who have been in the technology world for a long time know that what we offer is not always logical. And correcting the illogical can be very difficult. Sometimes it's easier to start from scratch.
The second: the platform must be available in one click. How many times have we been excited to discover a service but have to attend several meetings before seeing it in action or witnessing a demo? We all like to try it out, see if it's true, get in and learn about it.
Third, our tools are not just for companies in the credit sector. Over the years we have proven that they are useful and improve the processes of all types of businesses. In the now very famous presentation by Angela Strange of a16z, the words that have been defining our industry for some time now were mentioned: "every company will be a fintech company".
I agree. So, all companies should use fintech tools, right?
"A company that does not seek to renew itself, dies."
Over 13 years we have created and developed two tools - klin and workfloo - on two separate platforms and in different programming languages. Onboarding takes time: to get customers to implement our tools we do meetings, kick offs and trainings. Don't get me wrong, both klin and workfloo work very well: more than 100 companies use them every day, including leaders in their industries. So why change something that works?
Because the world in which kiban was born is very different from the world of today. Because we can provide a better experience to our customers. Because we want to offer our tools to all businesses. Because a company that does not seek to renew itself, dies.
We have been working on this rebuild for more than a year. Our 31 collaborators have not only participated in the development, but also enriched the original idea with their creativity: kiban cloud belongs to our whole team. We are very proud to launch our new platform and we want to hear from you and receive your feedback. We only ask for your understanding and patience as today, at kiban, we are starting from scratch.
